PDFTrail Privacy Policy

SheetPRIVACY ยท 02/02 Effective9 Aug 2026
Summary (plain English)

PDFTrail does not collect any data. The app works fully offline. Your PDFs, your converted files, and your app settings stay on your Mac. PDFTrail does not send your documents, your data, or any usage information to us or to anyone else. We built PDFTrail this way on purpose, for financial analysts and other professionals who handle sensitive documents.

What we collect

Nothing. PDFTrail collects no personal data, no document content, and no usage analytics. We have no server, no account system, and no database of users. We cannot see your documents, your exports, or how you use the app, because the app never sends that information anywhere.

What stays on your device

Everything stays on your device. This includes:

PDFTrail reads and writes these items using normal file and settings storage on your Mac. None of it leaves your device through PDFTrail.

How text extraction and OCR work

PDFTrail extracts text from born-digital PDFs directly. For scanned pages, PDFTrail uses Apple's Vision framework, which runs on-device. Recognizing text in a scanned page happens on your Mac; PDFTrail does not send page images or recognized text to any server to do this.

A note on verification. We checked the app's source code for network calls and found none. We also inspected the shipped conversion engine binary and confirmed it links no networking library โ€” only Apple system frameworks and compression libraries. No feature in PDFTrail requires internet access. We will update this policy at once if that ever changes.

Apple's role

You download PDFTrail and buy the "Unlock Full Version" in-app purchase through the Mac App Store. Apple, not PDFTrail, handles your payment, receipt, and account details for that purchase. We never see your payment information. Apple's own privacy policy covers what Apple collects for App Store purchases: apple.com/legal/privacy.

Crash reports

If your Mac is set up to share crash reports with Apple, and PDFTrail crashes, macOS may send a crash report through Apple's own mechanism. This happens through the operating system, not through PDFTrail, and you control it in System Settings. We do not run our own crash-reporting or analytics service, and we do not receive these reports.

Children's privacy

PDFTrail does not collect data from anyone, including children.

Changes to this policy

If we ever change what PDFTrail collects or how it works, we will update this policy and change the effective date above.
